Amber Flag Committee

Our school are very proud recipients of an Amber Flag awarded to individual efforts to create healthy, inclusive environments that support the mental well-being of young people. 

As per the Well-being Policy & Statement Framework for Practice 2018-2023 (Department of Education & Skills, 2018), promoting the well-being of our children and young people is a shared community responsibility.

Schools play a major role in enhancing protective factors and minimising risks.

Primary school subjects such as Aistear, SPHE, Arts Education and PE, as well as others, can be good places to start the children on their well-being journey.

Our Amber Flag Committee work on our school's mental health awareness goals guided by Ms.Bolton.

The Little Sunflower Programme

We adopted this programme in our school in 2023 for our pupils in Infants to rang a 4. 

Little Sunflower is an animated, interactive, digital, emotional wellbeing resource to help parents and teachers to help children understand and navigate big feelings with the help of the Little Sunflower characters. Little Sunflower is designed to develop self-esteem and resilience in children from a young age. It teaches various life skills to help build emotional resilience that the children can take into adulthood.

Yoga & Sound Healing

We are very lucky in our school to have a parent who is talented in yoga and sound healing. Dani shares her techniques and practice with us every month. We look forward greatly to our yoga sessions with Dani. Yoga & sound healing is reported to:

  •   relax breathing
  •   promote rest and relaxation
  •   lower heartrate
  •   boost the immune system
  •   improve sleep patterns
  •   restore peace and happiness
  •   calm the mind
  •   awaken creativity, imagination, concentration
  •   empower, increase self-esteem and self-love
  •   promote kindness and compassion towards others
  •   help to deal with feelings and difficult emotions
  •   lower stress and anxiety
  •   help to deal with grief, soothes the heart
  •   teach self-regulation tools to face difficult emotions,
  •   increase self-control, patience, stillness,
  •   improve focus and concentration,
  •   psycho-somatic education - learning about the body, mind, and emotions,
  •   improve listening skills
