Biodiversity and Foraging!

17th May 2024
We enjoyed very minute of our time spent with Ross from Free Range Outdoor Education. Ross is a certified and hugely experience Forest School Leader and Bushcraft instructor. He specializes in outdoor education and we were lucky enough that he spent a day in our school sharing his vast knowledge and skills with us. The children AND staff learned so much about our local environment and foraging. We even sampled some of the local hedgerow. Ross did however make us promise not to do this without a foraging expert who can point out all the local plants that are good for us. We learned all about the attributes of nettles and the white thorn tree. We learned about Ash Dieback, a disease attaching the Ash tree. We learned about Dandelions or ' Dent de Lion' , silver weed, cleavers, different grasses and trees. What a wonderful day of learning! We would love to have Ross visit again.

A huge THANK YOU to Helen & Niall, our neighbours who gave us permission to adventure into their nearby field. The excitement of being allowed to go 'next door' was huge and the laneway and field provided us with a perfect place to discover the joys of foraging. Go raibh míle maith agaibh!
